Trained Mohs histotechnicians for your lab
Mohs Pros places trained Mohs histotechnicians in Mohs labs, mostly in California: full-time, part-time on your surgery days, or per diem when you need cover.
What is a Mohs histotechnician?
A Mohs histotechnician (Mohs tech) prepares the tissue removed during Mohs surgery so the surgeon can read it: freezing it, cutting thin sections on a cryostat, staining them and mounting them on slides, usually while the patient waits. The surgeon reads the slides to check whether any cancer remains at the margins.
What a Mohs Pros tech does in your lab
Your surgeon removes and maps the tissue. The tech turns it into slides the surgeon can read while the patient waits, using the frozen-section method. Day to day that means:
- Embedding, cutting and staining frozen sections on your cryostat
- Labeling slides and getting them to the surgeon in the right order
- Keeping the cryostat, stainer and bench clean and running
- Keeping the QC and maintenance logs your lab needs
Mohs Pros trains its techs to handle the range of Mohs specimens, including difficult tissue such as cartilage.
Pick the schedule that fits
| Coverage | Good fit when |
|---|---|
| Full-time | You operate most days of the week and want the same tech at the bench. |
| Part-time | You run Mohs on set days, for example two or three days a week. |
| Per diem | You need a tech on specific dates: vacations, leave, a busy week, or between hires. See short-term and travel coverage. |
Where
Mohs Pros techs work in labs across California. For labs in other states, we check whether a travel tech can cover you, and otherwise add you to the waitlist for your state. See the coverage area.
Questions
- Are the techs Mohs Pros staff?
- Yes. Techs are placed by Mohs Pros, not by a partner or a subcontractor. Your request goes straight to Mohs Pros.
- Can a tech work only on our surgery days?
- Yes. Part-time coverage is built around the days your surgeons operate. Tell us your surgery days in the request.
- What does a Mohs tech cost?
- Every quote is custom. It depends on your surgery days, case volume, location and how long you need coverage, so there are no published rates.
