Questions and answers
- What is this site?
- MohsLabServices.com is where Mohs surgeons and dermatology practices ask Mohs Pros, Inc. for help with their Mohs lab. Requests go straight to Mohs Pros. It is not a directory or a staffing marketplace, and there are no partners or subcontractors.
- How much does it cost?
- Every quote is custom, so Mohs Pros does not publish rates. Price depends on your surgery days, case volume, location and what you need. Sending a request is free and doesn’t commit you to anything.
- What services can I request?
- Trained Mohs histotechnicians (full-time, part-time or per diem), short-term and travel coverage, Mohs lab setup, CLIA compliance support, and dermatology and Mohs billing.
- Which areas do you cover?
- Mohs Pros has local techs in California, including Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Diego, the Central Coast and San Francisco. For other states, Mohs Pros checks whether a travel tech can cover your lab; if not, your practice goes on the waitlist for your state.
- Can I get cover for a few days only?
- Yes. Per diem and short-term cover are for specific dates, such as vacations, leave or the gap between techs.
- What is a Mohs histotechnician?
- A Mohs histotechnician (Mohs tech) prepares the tissue removed during Mohs surgery so the surgeon can read it: freezing it, cutting thin sections on a cryostat, staining them and mounting them on slides, usually while the patient waits.
- What does CLIA require for a Mohs lab?
- A Mohs lab performs high-complexity testing, so it needs a CLIA certificate for non-waived testing, a qualified laboratory director, written procedures, quality control and maintenance records, and personnel competency records, and it is inspected every two years. California also requires a state clinical laboratory license. Mohs Pros supports this work; the laboratory director stays responsible.
- What method do Mohs Pros techs use?
- The frozen-section method used in Mohs surgery: tissue is frozen, cut on a cryostat, stained and read by the surgeon while the patient waits.
- How soon can a tech start?
- It depends on your location, schedule and the type of coverage. Mohs Pros will give you a realistic start date when it follows up on your request.
- We are opening a new Mohs lab. Can you help with all of it?
- Mohs Pros can help with lab setup, CLIA compliance work and a trained tech at the bench. Tick all three in your request.
- Should I include patient information in my request?
- No. Please don’t send patient information through this site. Describe your lab and schedule only.
- Who runs this site?
- The site belongs to Mohs Pros, Inc. and is operated for Mohs Pros by HeyWaiter Inc. Your request goes only to Mohs Pros.
- I am a Mohs tech looking for work. Where do I go?
- Mohs Pros hires and trains techs through mohstechnician.com.
